Black Friday 2026 UK: How to Spot Real Deals (and Skip the Fake Ones)

Black Friday 2026 falls on Friday 27 November, with Cyber Monday on 30 November. Many UK retailers start their sales days or even weeks earlier, so the real challenge is not finding a discount. It is working out which discounts are genuine. This guide shows you a simple five-step routine to do that.

Why a “Black Friday price” is not always a deal

A big red “was £300, now £200” label only means something if the item really sold for £300 recently. Retailers can raise a price in the weeks before a sale and then “cut” it back, or compare against a recommended price that nobody actually paid. Your job is to check what the item cost before the sale.

Step 1: Check the price history

Before you buy anything over about £30, look at what it cost over the last few months. We explain how in our guide to checking Amazon price history before you buy. The same idea works for other retailers: if the product page has no history, search the exact model number and see what it was selling for in September and October.

Step 2: Work out the real saving

Here is a simple worked example. These numbers are illustrative, not a real offer.

  • Label says: was £300, now £200, which looks like a £100 (33%) saving.
  • Price history shows the same item cost £210 throughout October.
  • Your real saving is £10, or about 5%.

A 5% saving can still be worth having, but it is not the bargain the label suggests. Always compare the sale price with the lowest recent price, not with the crossed-out number.

Step 3: Stack the savings you can legitimately combine

Once you know the sale price is fair, see whether anything else lowers it:

Step 4: Set a budget before you browse

Sales are designed to make you spend more. Decide in advance what you are buying, and the maximum you will spend, then stick to it. If Christmas gifts are part of the plan, our Christmas Savings Calculator shows how much to set aside each week so the bill does not land all at once in December.

Step 5: Pay safely

  • Use a credit card for bigger purchases if you can pay it off. For single items costing between £100 and £30,000, paying by credit card can give you extra protection under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act if something goes wrong. Only do this if you will clear the balance, because interest can wipe out any saving.
  • Check the website address before you enter payment details. Fake shops copy real brands during sales season.
  • Be wary of deals that only exist in a message or advert. If you cannot find the same offer by going to the retailer’s own site, skip it.

Black Friday checklist

  1. Write down the exact model or product you want.
  2. Check its price over the last 2 to 3 months.
  3. Compare the sale price with the lowest recent price.
  4. Check for cashback and whether codes are allowed on sale items.
  5. Check delivery cost and the returns policy.
  6. Pay by a method that protects you.

Frequently asked questions

When is Black Friday 2026 in the UK?

Friday 27 November 2026. Cyber Monday is Monday 30 November, and many retailers run offers for the whole week or longer.

Are Black Friday prices really lower?

Sometimes. Some items are genuinely at their lowest price of the year, while others are only slightly cheaper than before. Checking price history is the only reliable way to tell the difference.

Is it better to buy on Black Friday or Cyber Monday?

There is no single answer. Many retailers run the same offers across both, so focus on the item and its price history rather than the day.

Last updated: October 2026. We will add confirmed offers closer to the date.
